About Libertas Children's Home
Providing safe, nurturing, and therapeutic residential care for children and young people
At Libertas Children’s Home, we provide safe, nurturing, and therapeutic residential care for children and young people aged 7 to 17 years old who are unable to live with their birth families. We are an Ofsted-registered provider, proudly rated “Good” in our most recent inspection, and we operate across London and the Southeast of England, with a clear mission: to offer stability, healing, and opportunity to some of the most vulnerable young people in our communities.
Our homes are purposefully designed to feel like homes, not institutions, where every child is respected as an individual and supported to grow, thrive, and achieve their full potential. Whether a placement lasts weeks, months, or years, we ensure that each young person experiences consistency, compassion, and care that is trauma-informed and truly centred around their needs.
Our Vision and Ethos
The name Libertas is derived from the Latin word for “freedom”—and that’s what we strive to offer: freedom from harm, from fear, and from limitations imposed by previous adversity. We believe that with the right care, environment, and encouragement, every young person can transform their story.
Our homes are run with the ethos that every child deserves a second chance, and that trust, stability, and emotional connection are at the heart of effective care. Many of the children we support have experienced trauma, neglect, exploitation, or complex family breakdowns. We meet them with patience, skill, and genuine affection—never judgement.
What We Offer
Specialist Residential Care for 7–17 Year Olds
- We provide solo and shared placements in high-quality residential settings for young people who present a range of emotional, behavioural, and social needs.
- Our staff are trained in trauma-informed practice, positive behaviour support, attachment theory, and therapeutic crisis intervention, ensuring care is both therapeutic and restorative.
- We cater to young people with ADHD, ASD, SEMH, and those impacted by CCE (Child Criminal Exploitation) or CSE (Child Sexual Exploitation).
24/7 Staff Support
- All homes are staffed on a 24/7 basis, with either 2:1 or 3:1 staffing ratios where necessary.
- Our carers are not just support workers—they are trusted adults, trained to model healthy relationships and offer a sense of belonging.
Education and Life Skills
- Every child has access to education, whether through tuition, specialist provision, or a return to mainstream schooling.
- We work closely with local authorities, Virtual School Officers, and therapeutic professionals to create personalised education and development plans.
- Independent living skills are taught based on the child’s readiness and include budgeting, self-care, cooking, and community engagement.
Our Homes
Libertas currently operates a number of small, bespoke homes across London and the South East, each carefully selected and maintained to provide:
- A warm, homely environment that encourages pride and personalisation.
- Spacious bedrooms, communal areas for play and relaxation, and safe outdoor space where possible.
- Strong links with local schools, GPs, CAMHS, and community organisations.
We deliberately maintain a low placement volume per home to ensure each young person receives highly individualised support and staff can respond consistently to their emotional and behavioural needs.
Our People
Our team is our greatest strength. From our Registered Managers and Responsible Individuals to our key workers, therapists, and education coordinators, every staff member is committed to putting children first.
- All staff are enhanced DBS-checked and receive regular training in:
- Safeguarding
- Managing challenging behaviour
- First aid and health & safety
- Cultural competence
- Mental health awareness
- Our managers hold relevant Level 5 qualifications in Leadership for Residential Childcare, and our support staff are enrolled in or have completed their Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
Ofsted Regulated – Rated ‘Good’
Libertas Children’s Home is proud to be regulated by Ofsted, the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. Our homes are regularly inspected to ensure we meet the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
We have been consistently rated “Good”—a reflection of our commitment to delivering safe, effective, and meaningful care. Our inspection reports note our strong safeguarding culture, positive relationships between staff and young people, and impactful support plans tailored to individual needs.
Working in Partnership
We work in close collaboration with:
- Local Authorities across London and the South East
- Independent Reviewing Officers (IROs)
- CAMHS and mental health teams
- Virtual School Heads
- Police and safeguarding boards
This partnership approach ensures that every decision is made in the best interest of the child, and that multi-agency support is coordinated, responsive, and effective.
